A wound rotor starter, on the other hand, is a type of motor starter that is used with a wound rotor motor, which has a rotor with a set of coils instead of the typical squirrel-cage design. The wound rotor starter is used to control the starting and stopping of the motor, and to adjust the amount of torque produced by the motor. It works by using a set of resistors and contactors to gradually apply power to the rotor coils as the motor starts up, allowing the motor to build up speed and torque before the resistors are bypassed and the motor runs at full power.
